You deny anything that is not true. So, in this case, you deny that you are husband and wife.

Your basic options are admit, deny, lacking knowledge. Do not ever give out any information other than - admit (ex: you reside at xyz address). admit if correct. or deny - as in this case- or lacking knowledge-

Lacking knowlege is the best response to such statements as you owe $_____. They are trying to get you to prove their case for them. Make them prove it- every dime.

I hope that an attorney can address this- if they sued a party that does not exist, perhaps it is grounds for dismissal?
