Who can pull my credit report?

Hello:
I was contacted by a collection attorney for a debt over 8 years old. I am sure it falls under the SoL law. so I am not too worried about it.
My question is --Is this company legally allowed to pull my credit report? It seems they were waiting until my credit finally got decent to send me a collection letter. I have noticed once or twice in the past 5 years that this company pulled my report.
When two bad items finally fell off my report making my credit score pretty decent --they hit. Is this legal? Thanks Going Crzay in Alabama
