my understanding is...a CA can check your report if they have bought or assigned a debt. permissible purpose and those inquiries will stay on 2 years. they hurt your credit score. dispute them. the "soft" inquiries no one sees but its how they get your information..and snap up chargeoffs, esp when they see someone wanting credit. opting out prevents scavenger CAs from readin it and trying to act on the information. opt out. one phone call will work for all 3 agencies..they follow up with a letter for you to sign. it also prevents the "pre approved" offers we line our bird cages with. many companies will check your credit if you have not opted out. good luck!
