When you apply for new credit, the CAs will see this, that is when they (a) get updated info on you.(current address, employment) and when they think you are cleaning up your credit (and actually give a hoot) they will mess up your credit report with their tradeline in hopes that you will pay to delete. This is common with very old, past SOL accounts. It is especially common when you apply for a mortgage.
