ShermanAcq purchased a judgment account from Sears. The judgment is in its ninth year for NC. The original judgment was for $3000 but their lawyers have added interest bringing the "current" amount to $6000. Sherman also insists I deal with their lawyers. I want to negotiate a settlement that offers ShermanAcq a small profit for them above what they paid for the account. I think they paid about 3 cents on the dollar and I am offering to pay up to $500, which is about 9 cents on the "current" amount. Their assigned lawyer refused this, however. They insist on $1500. That's about $1000 more than I want to settle for. I am searching for ideas that might bring them closer to my amount.
One idea is that I "suggest" I will use a cease
and desist letter and deal with the matter later when the
price comes down.
I think a cease
and desist letter will result in Sherman re-assigning the
account to someone else, and that the lawyer would be willing
to come down to my price to avoid that.
