Charge offs SHOULD BE updated to say IIB,(included in bankrupcy)Mine still say charged off, so I have started the process of cleaning house. Yes, you deal with each CRA seperately. You'd be surprised, sometimes the information on them does not match and is not accurate. Bk is a public record and will stay on your CR for 10 years. HOWEVER, you can usually start to rebuild credit 2 years post bk. Start with secured credit card, store card. You can even get a mortgage after 2 years. Not prime rate, of course. All derogatory credit drops off of your credit report after 7 years, actually they say 7 to 7.5 years.( from DOA) The chapter 7 will remain on your report for the full 10 years as a public record. I have heard that some dispute it off.
