You can not improve your credit by paying a collection agency. It is an unfortunate fact of life. A "paid" collection is just as bad as an unpaid one, and is cemented to your credit reports. If you have TWO collection agencies trying to collect from you, and reporting on the same debt,you are being SCAMMED by one or both. Is this your only debt? When did you last pay the ORIGINAL creditor, (while you were still able to use the credit card)? What State are you in?
