PAY NO ONE !!

Send a dispute to the CRA stating duplicate entries for the same account.

Cap.One has sold the account, so you do NOT have any chance to deal with them.

Once you get a response from the CRA as to exactly who is reporting what, then you send them a validation letter requesting proof they are entitled to collect, and proof of the account balances etc.

If you accept ANY settlement offer from any CA, you can be sure of three things,
1- Whatever they "told you" is a lie.
2- The account will show up as a "paid collection" which is just as bad credit-wise as an unpaid one.
3- The unpaid balance of your "settlement" will be sold to another CA who will then re-age it and re-report it as a new debt.
