a Mr. Charles Fletcher of United Recovery Services contacted me this morning, and lied to me like a real pro. I have been very sick for months and away from home, in & out of hospitals/doctors offices, heavily medicated, having surgeries, etc., and have been making small payments on the credit accounts, but not what the banks wanted. So, the CC company tells me today that it was charged off and sold to United Recovery in March and that I should call them. I called the number given to me by Citibank, who recently bought my AT&T Universal account. I sat on the phone holding on for more than 30 minutes with no response. I hung up.
Less than two hours later, this Charles Fletcher guy calls me and starts telling me about how they have been assigned my account by Citibank for my
"refusal to pay." I said "Excuse me?" They have received payments on the account, although they have not been what they asked for. Charles Fletcher of United Recovery Services in Houston, Texas then stated "The bank will allow me to accept 6,068.00 but nothing less on this account."
He also claimed that he or someone at his company contacted my home last week and spoke to my husband, who said I was asleep & to call back later. Get this: My husband was not here on that day. My husband has been working out of state since November 2003, and when he IS at home for a day or two, he NEVER answers the telephone. So I told Mr. Fletcher that I had called his office this morning and waited on the line for over 20 minutes with no answer. Then I asked him WHY his office has not contacted me prior to May 4, 2004 if he has had this account since March of 2004. Charles Fletcher began with more lies, telling me that his office had called my home more than ten times in April and left messages on an answering machine. There were NONE from him when I arrived home. There are NO calls appearing on the Caller ID system from his number or agency, either, to show that they HAD called during my absences. I have a list of names and numbers given to me from relatives or friends who have been at my home when I have not, and nowhere on that list is this guy's name, company's name of United Recovery Services, or their telephone number.
So... he lied again.

Worse than the lying was Charles Fletcher's negative, forceful, smart alecky attitude towards me when I told him that I had been at home less than 24 hours, had on income or job at the moment and would have to determine what I could pay on that debt & get back to him. I explained that I have been working out payment arrangements with my creditors since I returned home yesterday evening, and would like to pay my debts if possible, but would have to be realistic and not make arrangements that I could not meet. Being uncertain as to what the future holds for me, considering my health, etc., I explained to him that I did not have an exact amount that I could offer at this time, but knew it could not be more than $200.00 per month. Charles Fletcher of United Recovery Services then began telling me that $200.00 would not be acceptable, and I would continue to be charged $184.81 per month in interest, unless I paid more than $200.00 per month.

After all of my efforts in actually TRYING to work out a payment arrangement with that lying jerk Charles Fletcher, I became impatient and was insulted when Fletcher stated "I canot just put this account on hold while you wait to decide what you want to pay. I can accept a large sized down payment and reduce your monthly interest rate IF you make a large down payment today. If you are not willing to make a large down payment on this account today, then I cannot accept $200.00 per month from you on the account. So, what would you like for me to do with this account while you decided what you might be willing to pay?" (Those are almost his exact words)

That man's arrogance, insolence, and smart ass comments and attitude were bryond belief.

I finally told him "DO NOT CALL THIS HOUSE AGAIN." He began rudely objecting with more of his smart alecky attitude and I just repeated "DO NOT CALL THIS HOUSE AGAIN." and hung up on him.

I began searching for information on the company immediately afterwards here on the Internet, and found this board, as well as this information:

http://www.ftc.gov/opa/1996/06/united.htm.

I do not know if this is the exact SAME company, or people involved, but it certainly sounds like it is.

There are NO TELEPHONE DIRECTORY LISTINGS IN HOUSTON TEXAS for UNTIED RECOVERY SERVICES on the Internet, anyway. At least I could not find any yet.

Can anyone do a little more research and determine if it IS in fact the same company that was BANNED from becoming involved in collections again?

If so, then we need to drop a dime on the scumbags.

Thanks for any information anyone has on this firm.
