Please explain DOLA

I know DOLA means date of last activity BUT, in layman's terms what does that mean? Does that mean the last time you were able to charge on the cc or does that mean the time the last payment was made on the account? Also, when does SOL kick in?....when the account became deliquent or when the account was charged off? Sorry, folks, for being so inept but there is alot to learn when you have the vulchers beating down the door.
