Summons question

How would I go about finding out if a summons has been issed against me, I live in a city 80 miles from where I work and officers had a summons for me at my work address but I wasn't there. Should I check out that county or the one I live in? I'm an Illiniois resident who works in Cook county. Can I prevent a summons from being sent to me? Thank you Bill
