The date of last activity is a good indication if you don't have anything else. BUT, if the account was past due and never current BUT you were making payments, the date of last activity is not accurate re: the SOL. SOL starts when the account became deliquent. As Why Chat says, when you could no longer use the card for purchases. Look at your credit report and see when they FIRST reported it 30 days past due.
