I was sued in small claims court for back city income taxes. I got a letter from a collection attorney. I didn't believe I owed as much as they said so I asked for validation. I don't really believe I received correct validation. Anyway, lawyer said he wouldn't correspond with me if I didn't give me my personal address instead of P.O. Box. Stated if I thought the amount incorrect to connect the tax dept. I contacted the tax dept and made an agreement to pay a specified amount. Sent that amount with letter stating that account would be considered paid in full with cashing of MO and that suit would be dropped. I'm supposed the go to court Tues, 5/11. Suit has not been dropped. Can I ask for a continuance over the phone on Monday or in court? I live 2 hours from the court. If they're not going to drop the lawsuit, need more time to present my case. Spoke to tax dept again last Wed and they said the suit should be dropped and they would call me back. No call back. By the way, they had my phone number and personal address. Sorry for the length. Any advice please? Thanks!
