If it was charged off in 6/2000 it was deliquent 180 days before that, so it is passed the SOL in California. Listing it as a settled account does not help your credit rating. Not only that, but they will probably sell the balance to another CA, and the process will start all over again. IF you did open the account in Wisconsin,it is possible for them to sue you there since Wisconsin SOL is 6 years. However, I don't really know how this works. I can say that it would be expensive for them since it would involve getting a judgement in Wisconsin, and the executing it in California. I don't think this is likely to happen. Truth is they probably do not even know where you opened this account. This is very old and CAs buy in bulk for pennies on the dollar and usually have no supporting info. Opt Out, have a look at your credit report and see what old addresses it lists. I would just lie low and ignore the offer. Let sleeping dogs lie.
