20 day count starts the day after you were served. Look at your summons- the process server must note the day and time. SO, if served on Monday, start with Tuesday as day one and count 20 calendar days.

Make sure you file the answer with the court- I usually file it personally and have the court clerk time and date stamp it just in case they screw up at the courthouse. (It has happened and that saved me)

You can always settle before the court date- the lawyers actually prefer that. Make sure that they agree to a voluntary dismissal if you work out a settlement agreement. Good luck.
