Many people on this list live in states where wages can be garnished, homes or cars can have liens placed against them, bank accounts can be wiped out, etc. Some states have a relatively short period of time where a judgement can be executed, others live in states where a judgement is good for up to 20 years. Plus, as Cat said, having bad credit can affect your ability to get any type of insurance, and the rates you pay for the insurance you get. Many employers now check your credit rating.
