Go to your Court, get the legal exemption form, file it, bring a copy to your bank.

SOME banks, will "flag" an account so that you are notified and can get the exemption filed before the account is frozen, however, legally, your bank is probably correct, the garnishment exemption form is USUALLY filed AFTER a judgment is obtained.

In Fl and Tx,it is ALSO a good idea if you think you will be sued, or are being sued and believe you WILL get a judgment against you, to file an affidavit of homestead, this will prevent a certified copy of the judgment being placed against your home.
