Hi, if you mean J Kelly, I don't know how they found me. I had not Opted Out. I did get new phone service because we sold the big house and bought a smaller one (kids gone). Spouse bought a new car (cash) and my name is on the title and registration. I had a current drivers license, and I guess they searched public records and found that I owned a house (with spouse). I was sued by a Canadian Corp. (registered as a foreign corp in Seattle). The summons states, "
"the plaintiff incurred a lost of 5,801.00" and then they added 4,071 interest, so they were suing for 9,872. (just under the 10,000 limit in small claims-where attorneys don't go)The account was within the SOL when they bought it. But, still that is a lot of money to pay for a bad debt. My opinion is that they did not realize that all of the differnt states had different laws that protect the consumer. So, they probably did not know about Tenants by the Entirety when they bought the account. Anyway, First Resolution seems to have completely disappeared. No web site anymore, don't hear a word about them. Guess they were not successful with American debt purchases. But, I got off the subject........I think the fact that I was sued by this Canadian Corp was kind of a fluke. I have all of the American garbage bag collectors on my CR, but none of them bothered me too much. The phone calls became fewer and fewer as time passed. Letters came, but were infrequent. I ignored them for the most part, and the few times I did pick up (didn't have my glasses on ) I pretended to be my daughter. Knew that they could not talk to anyone but me about the debt. I did get one interesting phone call that I should mention. Didn't have my glasses on, and someone called (from Canada, but I didn't see that until later when I put the glasses on) Said they were UPS, and needed my address. That time I admitted to being me, but since I had not ordered anything from UPS, was suspicious, so I asked if I could call her back. Asked for her phone number, she got nervous and said 1800 UPS. So that was a dead give away. I called back the number on the caller ID, but it just rang and nobody answered. (God was with me on that one) They did not get my address that day, but they did get it somehow since I was served at home (about a year later). Well, good luck. Just lay low, don't apply for any credit, and if you get a new phone, put it in somebody else's name if possible.
