Protecting disability payments

Well, I posted here the other day. I have been calling all over the place and it finally comes down to this: DON'T PUT YOUR SS DISABILITY PAYMENT IN YOUR BANK ACCOUNT!! The banks won't protect it for you. I couldn't find any form to file to protect it. Once the $$ is in your bank account it can be attached. So I called up SS and stopped direct deposit. This is a drag as I won't be able to write checks and will have to get M.O.'s for my bills, but I won't wake up some morning to find that someone now has that money.
I also can't find a form to claim a NM homestead exemption. I know there's one out there....somewhere. Anyone know where I can find it???
I am still getting calls from my OC's and threatening letters. I have bee advised not to talk to them either as the conversation may be construed as an attempt to "settle" when I have told them clearly that I cannot.
I wish I'd never seen a credit card!! I am a reformed woman! Lordy, Lordy!
