Am with Taziblue. Start simple, with 'poor man's bk'. Remember, when the going gets tough, the tough do nothing. Holding one's position many times proves sufficient. BK opens you to federal scrutiny, sometimes OCs play nasty, challenge you, claiming fraud. Bullshale, of course, easily disproven by adroit use of 'Dougherty Factors', named for federal case. Google it, fine reading for a late spring eve.
Lay low, don't apply for cards. Use cash, MO's, bank account out of state, or joint with spouse, relative, The Easter Bunny, anyone. Avoid credit card use, opt out. Before you know it, you'll own stuff outright, beholden to none.
If beer-vomit Ca's try any rudeness via lawsuits, BK still last resort. Answering a suit many a time will encourage them to haunt an easier target, leaving you alone. Many a case is dismissed for 'lack of prosecution' on part of Plainstiff, merely because Defendant answered in timely manner.

Timely,

Keyser Soze
