One thing you might want to keep in mind... Before you close out your current checking account to protect your info from the CA's, you really ought to open the new checking account first. The reason is: ALOT of banks are now running credit reports before they will open a checking account for a new customer. So IF you have ALOT of charge-offs and deliquencies, you're screwed. The recent passage of the Patriot Act requires ALL banks to run a credit report, copy your driver's license and actual proof of SS #.
