The phone company adds the "Out of Area" to your caller i.d. when the caller is out of area. Though I think this depends on where and who your phone company is.

When I call my brother in South NJ, I show up as "Out of Area" with my telephone number right under it.

When I call my aunt in North NJ, my name and phone number show up.

When I call home from work, which has a PBX(?), it shows "Out of Area" with no phone nbr whatsoever.

Still haven't figured it out totally.
