It is a violation for the CA to "say" that they can take your home. You should not be talking to them, only to find out who they are. The more they can pressure you, the faster you will make a mistake in handling your situation. The CA is simply not on your side and is not required to look out for your future. Did they send a dunning letter? You have a right by law to dispute all claims made by a CA and a 30 day window is left open by law for them to stop calling you once you send in a letter of dispute, even if the debt is yours or not. Can they attempt to sue you, yes. Can they get a judgement against you, maybe. Can a judgement then attach your home, partially. Can you negotiate a settlement? It's worth a try. Can you confound them by filing bankruptcy? Yes, with reduced credit opportunities, and other troublesome aspects for the future. Can you log collection violations and sue them for up to $1000 each. Yes. Hope this helps. Good luck
