Checking acocount debit

About 10 years ago I had a safe deposit box. I told the bank to close it and that I had lost the keys when I moved. 10 years later I find my checking account debited for 125.00. I inquired and they told me that because I lost the keys the box was in "drill status" (for 10 years?) and had to be re-keyed. What's up?
