A charge off will stay on your credit report for 7 years from the "last activity date" for the account and not from when it was origionaly opened. If you find the listing is older then 7 years past the last activity date, you need to submit a dispute to the credit burea in writing, along with a copy of the report you currently have.

One important note...
Check with all 3 credit bureas and make sure the charge off is not listed on any other report. In some instances, you can wait 2 months for a listing to be deleted from your report, only to find a year later it magically appears again. This is done when agencies share information about you.

Good luck... Don't take any wooden nickels, and pay those bills! :)

: I have an account that was charged off, to my dismay. It is past collections, and has been written off to bad debt. My questions is this: It still appears on my credit report, even though it is past the seven years....do charge offs stay on a credit report, even after the 7 years?
: any info is appreciated. thanks
