Summon by THIRD PARTY collector

I recieved a Summon from third party collector and was asked to respond within 20 days which I did. I called our circuit city court and found out they have formally filed the suit. I asked the city clerk what to do. She said to wait. Its been 2 months now that I have not hear from the lawyer. Can they sue me without me knowing? Can they passed judgement by default without my knowledge? My account is passed SOL already. Is this part of Atty gimmick or is he just waiting for something? Any help is well appreciated thank you Rod
