: I got a call from them yesterday. It's not the first call. I was sent a letter saying that they were looking up information on me. I can't think of the right term to use. Anyway so when the guy called yesterday he threatened legal action because he said that a check bounced to my original creditor. The truth is I called the original creditor and told them I put a stop payment on the check because when I tried to deal with them recently they said I'd have to talk to the collection agency.

: It seems as though the agency hasn't purchased the debt, if that makes any sense. Whatever they get they're going to send to the credit card company, said the agent. Soooo, do you think if I offer the original creditor a lump sum, can I end this mess? What should I actually do? The debt is a valid one. It's just that I work about 10 hours a week and don't make that much money.

Don't pa the collection agency. I was in a bad car accident and had a lot of medical bills. First never dal with the collction agencies. Write them a seize and assist letter. Make sure you sent it certified!!! In the letter tell thm to stop contacting you. After they recieve the letter they can not contct you if they do there in violation of the law and you can suefor damages. The next step is to write the original creditor that yu oe the money too. Explain your situation and ask them if you mae payments to them if they would take he acount off your credit or change the rating. If they say no wait a while and work with other creditors that will work with you and come back to them later. Don't be to eager to settle until you have come to some agreement in WRITING!!!! If you work out sme agreement with the collection agencies it doesn't matter the only one that can change your credit is the orignal creditor!! Hopes this helps. I have had 40,000 taken off my credit reports. It takes a while but eventually you'll get somewhere
