Credit Card Financial Disclosure

A co-worker just heard that there is a new credit card law. She received a form with several of her bills. Companies are sending out a little form with your bill that you must check off if you do not want them to disclose your financial status with other entities. The burden is now on the consumer not the companies. I find this truly alarming.

This is not getting your name off a mail list.

Does anyone know where I can find out more about this? I have tried various consumer sites including the federal sites -AG's Consumer Affairs, Federal Trade Commision, etc. I found nothing. It's probably listed under a subject heading I do not recognize.

Thanks
