Time is running out -- I really need help on this one

This is a follow up to the thread I started on 5/13/04 entitled "Validating with CA". Before I send off an SOL letter, I need some more advice.

As I already stated, I had originally started this mess with disputing lines on my credit report with the CRAs. The account in question is currently held by CFC Financial LLC. I received the Experien investigation results yesterday and it appears that the item was verified and updated based on the response from CFC.

However, according to the investigation results, CFC is listing this as being opened/reported since 8/2003. They are also listing this as an installment account. They also have the original creditor listed as SBC Michigan.

How can any of this possibly be reported this way. The account is actually tied to an old phone bill with AmeriTech that goes all the way back to 8/98.

I understand that phone bills fall under the UCC in Michigan with an SOL of 4 years. However, there is nothing on the credit report showing the original date of default (or the original creditor for that matter).

Should I send the lengthy validation letter that computerguy suggested on 5/13/04 and then depending upon their response (if any), follow up with an SOL letter?.

I'm thinking that if I start off with an SOL letter, the CRAs won't recognize it because CFC doesn't seem to be reporting the correct date of default.

Please help. I really need to get something out to them ASAP.
