In IL, "nail and mail" can only be done for evictions, never for money cliams. But that doesn't stop the CA's from trying it. If they claim that they achieved personal or substituted service, that is what the court will believe unless you tell them otherwise.

If you get a "summons" tacked to your door or sent in the mail, call the courthouse first to determine if it was truly issued by the court. If it is legitimate, then don't ignore it.

If you get a legit summons, get a lawyer and claim improper service of process. If it's beyond the SOL, then claim improper service OR go ahead and file an appearance and answer to fight them.

If it's NOT a legit summons, get a lawyer and SUE.
