The FDCPA was enacted to stop the abuse and other nasty practices. However, the biggest flaw that *I* can see is the max of $1000 PER ACTION for violations is nothing to collection agencies. If the fine had been up to, say $10,000, it might have a deterrent effect. As it is, CA's thumb their nose at the laws - and at us. Add to that the fact that SO MANY people have NO CLUE that the FDCPA even exists and that they even have rights to stop an abusive CA, the CA's get away with it. There needs to be a massive education campaign and it needs to start in the schools with mandatory personal money management classes.
