I can't really think of any circumstances that "new found money - pot of gold" can go straight to a judgement. UNLESS you have filed bankrupcy. Of course there are exceptions, but I focus mainly on unsecured credit card debt. If I wanted to cash a 5,000.00 check, I would go to the bank it was drawn on. I don't think 5K would be that big of a deal.
