Get an answering machine and a phone with caller ID. Screen your calls, and the phone company can start something called selective call block, which means if they do not have their number so it can be displayed (or name), they don't even get through to your answering machine. Train your family to NOT answer the phone. Then turn the ringer off so you're not even bothered by the ringer or machine at all. I check my machine every hour or so, and you'd be surprised at how many calls don't require immediate attention, if at all. It's not your fault that you are being call for someone who is not a member of your household, but getting the people that are calling to understand that you're not going to give out any information is not worth the anxiety it causes you. Let the machine pick up and gain some peace of mind. They'll get tired after a bit of time and the calls will stop.
