Follow-up to Cohen & Slamowitz

My original posting was dated 5/22. We spoke to those wondeful human beings at Cohen & Slamowitz today regarding our frozen bank account with SSI and Child Support payments in it. We offered to enter into a payment agreement for $100 a month if they unfreeze our account so that our mortgage check would clear. They flat out refused and said that they will be seizing the money in the account ($1300) by sending the Sheriff's Office to the bank to collect it. Is there anything we can do? Should we immediately file bankruptcy to stop all collection activity? Once again, we live in New York. Thanks for any advice.
