A year ago this month I contracted with DEBTXS out of Dallas to help me in 1-3 years reach a settlement with Bank of America and Capital One. I have paid them ... so far almost $3000.00. I was to save money and wait... so far no one company has called them. I was instructed NOT to respond to any letters or calls and to fax or tell them when I received a call. I did that. I was not behind on payments to Bank of America and just wanted relief from the interest rate -- I paid them more than the amount due but monthly payments kept going up each month. Bank of America is sueing me on two accounts. I have a lawyer through pre-paid legal services and was told today that I have to pay a retainer fee of $1500.00. The lawyer that I was referred to called me today and told me that the additional suit may cost me another 1500.00 and that I only have 2 hours "free or paid for" of his services. I was told by the pre-paid legal service that I had 20 hours and would receive a 25% discount for any hours over and beyond that. Got home late today and had a call but when I called back they were closed (this is a firm out of the Fort Worth, TX area - I do live in Texas). I was told yesterday to fax the papers I received on Saturday (second lawsuit) to them and use the same case number. Now, I see myself being screwed by them. I have been a member of pre-paid legal services for about two years. One guy I talked to yesterday told me I had 20 hours. The lawyer in Houston told me I had 2 hours. I am not done with pre-paid services yet... and will call them tomorrow. I will pay...in more ways than one unless you guys can come up with the questions I must ask. I am not trying to get out of what I owe and the contract with DEBTXS proves that. I figure no one cares what my intentions were. This a great Forum. I have learned many "what questions to ask," and will take steps to find out ... but who do I trust? I don't think that the lawyer that called or was assigned to me has my best interest at heart. Thanks, Sage
