Not mean at all. Smart. You're being a good investigator. Let the subject talk, dig himself into a hole, while you remain quiet, hold your cards close. Then, when he's in the hole, spring the trap. Look, this was downright friendly of you. If it weren't, you'd have tape him, said little, and sent it to the FTC with a complaint. Why not do it anyway? Let the FTC, and the BBB, and your State AG know of your new 'phone pal'?
