I had a severely overdue account with AT&T that I finally paid off in March of this year. Along with my payment, I sent them a letter basically stating that I'm giving them permission to pay my account with my check under certain terms...1) they have to remove the entry of "charge-off" and 2) they have to replace it with "paid in full" with no delinquencies. I also put in the letter that if they did not agree with the terms that they need to correspond with me via mail. As I said, the account was paid in March, and to my surprise, I recieved my credit report today (after sending dispute letters to all 3 CRA's about this account)and the negative entries are still on my report. I spoke to AT&T about this delema, and they informed me that they do not have to change the negative entry, and that they've done nothing wrong. I'm confused, did they not just commit a crime by not keeping to a legal aggreement? My letter CLEARLY stated that they ONLY had my permission to pay the account with the check that I sent to them if they agreed to the terms. They cashed the check and nothing has changed in my credit report!!! Should I consult a lawyer? Thanks for your time...Mary
