do you have them agreeing in writing to your terms>? if not, i may be wrong, but you paid them. they took it. they were under no obligation to have strings on it, quite the contrary, you had the obligation to pay them when you accepted their contract to have a phone. you paid and they took it. i dont think they had any obligation to do anything else, unless they put in writing before you paid them . i may well be wrong but i see things logically and with common sense..2 things the law sadly lacks.
i dont see you were in any position to demand anything from them. sorry. they had the original contract and you owed it. i think whoever told you to do that, well, go back and ask them and get some proof of the law where they had to do that. without creating a new contract first, i think the old one took precedence. i may be totally wrong. just my view. to negotiate delete for pay, in writing..FIRST. then pay it. some companies might do it, but they are under no obligation to have us as debtors making demands on them before we pay. if so, the original contract would have said.."if account is in arrears, and consumer pays, such account will not be reported as negative to the 3 CRAs." i havent seen that recently on anything i have. shrug*
