OK, When my dad passed, I had to go thru probate so that I could legally take over his assets. I paid for final expenses, a couple of credit cards, and the rest was mine. I would have thought that if I hadn't paid the debts, I would have been legally responsible because I was the executor. If I hadn't gone through probate, I would not have been able to get his assets into my name. I had a special estate account with his name and my name. For instance, I got a refund from the gas company, and that check was made out to both my father and I (even though he was deceased) and when I tried to deposit into my account.......nope. I had to put it in the estate account. So, I am not understanding how I was not responsible for my father's bills. Not a big deal in my father's case, but I am just wondering.
