If you are within SOL, we suggest a limited cease and desist, you need to give them a way to contact you. Otherwise, you could trigger a law suit against you because you gave them no choice. If you are judgement proof, and you KNOW IT, your chances of being sued are greatly reduced. If your are passed SOL, then absolutely send them the SOL letter. If the account has been assigned to a CA and you ceast and desist with a letter, it could go back to the original creditor, or it could go to another CA. Sometimes when a ceast and desist is sent the CA will just move on. Debt doesn't go away, just goes someplace else. If the CA has purchased the debt, it can't go back to the original creditor, but can be assigned or sold to a different CA. But, taking into account that these collection agencies handle with thousands of accounts, it does take time before you are contacted again. Not unusual for it to be months. This is my philosophy, you have bad credit, you might be sued. Protect your assets NOW. Relax and let the SOL run. Hope for the best, be prepared for the worst.
