Has this account charged off? It it has been past due for 180 days or more, then it is charged off and you are dealing with a CA, not the original creditor. Never pay a CA. It is pointless, does absolutely nothing for your credit report. Never ever give a CA your checking account info, never give them a post dated check. Your best bet, assuming this has been charged off is to ignore the CA phone calls. Watch caller ID, let the machine pick up. He will most likely move onto an easier target.
