6 yr old cc charge-off

I have had numerous letters from CA in the last 6 months. I wrote and asked them for original creditor. Received response today. The account has been delinquent(last pymt rec'd 5/98) for 6 yrs (as of May 04), and in Dec 04 it will be 6 yrs original creditor charged it off. I was not 1099'd for it. CA is now owner of cc acct. I fear a judgement could surface in the next 6 months. Naturally CA wants payment. Is the SOL in effect for this in NY? Starting when?
What dom I do now if anything?
