I agree, once charged off, you have the negative tradeline for 7 years. You can get lucky, or smart and dispute it off the CR. As far as the harrassment, I never talked to CAs, so that really was minimal for me.(especially since I had 13 charge offs) Of course there is the possibility of being sued. Again, I think I had a pretty good strategy. I had lots of bad credit, and I knew I could be sued, so I prepared to be sued. Can't say that it wasn't stressful, but all things considered, not that bad. Just too bad the original creditors were not willing to give me hardship plan when it would have done me some good. But, that's the way it is.
