So much of when to charge-off is at the discretion of the creditor, Cat. In my case, the charge-off occurred years before the FDIC guidelines were published. But they actually did me a favor by charging it off sooner than 180 days. Didn't seem like a favor at the time, but now they can go pound sand because it's well beyond the SOL. :) Fat lot of good it did 'em to play hardball.
