That is a really difficult situation, and I can certainly empathize. Significant others tend to run interference, particularly when it's fairly early in the relationship, and unfortunately there is very little you can do about it.

If the "temporary" settlement was incorporated into the decree, it's permanent. Consider it one of Life's hard lessons in negotiating a contract.

If you are legally responsible to this debt via the agreement, your best bet is to get an attorney to represent you on both issues, settlement and child support. I'm not sure how much you're talking about, but keep in mind that property settlements *can* be included in bankruptcy. If you're talking a lot of money, that may be the route you would want to take. But if it's a small amount, the court will very likely allow you to make installment payments.
