Charged off accounts remain on your credit report for 7 years as a negative entry. The original creditor CAN attempt to collect the debt any time before the staute of limitation expires. They can also ASSIGN the debt to a collection agency to collect on their behalf or the OC can sell the debt to a CA. Just because the debt was charged off doesn't mean that the debt will automatically go away.

You really need to read all you can and educate yourself on your options. I wish I had discovered this forum years ago.....
