If Northland thinks it's your debt and you call inquiring about it chances are they will try and capture your number and call back to hound you with collection calls. Before calling them I'd suggest writing them, and if you do call them use a calling card.

I've received absurd notices from Northland Group saying they are contacting me on behalf of the current account holder Sherman Acquisition which to me ought to be some sort of fraud for an agency to attempt to collect on a debt in which they aren't even the account holder, but I've not aware of any precedence on that scenario. To me it sounds no different than me trying to collect my neighbor’s debt on behalf of our landlord.
