SOL in Alabama is 3 years. Look at your credit report for the charge off date and go back 6 months. Thats a good rule of thumb for the SOL. Just by the tactics this guy is using, he sounds like a scum garbage collector trying to collect on something that is passed SOL. That means he can do absolutely nothing legally.
I would suggest that you NOT TALK WITH HIM. WAtch your caller ID, let the machine pick up, whatever works for you. Most will not leave a message because that is proof of FDCPA violation.
If he can't harass you, threaten you, scare you, he will most likely move onto an easier target. Read Why Chat's web page. Become an informed consumer. These CA scum (as Keyzer says) depend on the consumer NOT KNOW THE LAW.
DON'T give him a penny.
