How to answer?

This morning I was sued by Great Seneca for an $8,000 Chase bank credit card bill. I don't want to let them get a default judgement. I do owe the money but I don't want to just roll over on this one. If I file an answer and go to court and they don't show, am I free and clear? Is that the only shot I have at this point? Thanks
