There are many legal issues involving assignments for these debt buyers. A lawyer will be able to raise these many issues in a manner you wouldn’t. This isn’t Judge Judy where you say the account isn’t yours, prove it. They have to provide all the proof of the account and the legal assignment that gives them the right to sue for the amount they are suing you for. You’re getting sued by a garbage collection agency for $8000. Get a lawyer.
